Shimla, perched at an elevation of 7500 feet, was once the summer capital of India. The town still retains its old-world charm, with beautiful colonial architecture, pedestrian-friendly Mall Road and beautiful churches. The Mall, which runs along The Ridge, is the hub of activity. Crowded with tourists, it’s the city’s most famous shopping centre, with shops selling everything from clothes to junk food. The Ridge is a large open space in the heart of the town and presents excellent views of the mountain ranges. Among Shimla’s major landmarks is the Christ Church & St. Michael’s Cathedral. The Jakhu temple, dedicated to the monkey god Hanuman, is a popular site to visit.
