At an altitude of 1372 meters, the cool, misty resort of Mahabaleshwar is one of Maharashtra’s premier hill stations, a paradise for nature explorers. Mahabaleshwar derives its name from the presiding deity “Mahabali” whose shrine at the old Mahabaleshwar Temple is a major attraction. Mahabaleshwar’s beautiful vistas overlook the Krishna and Koyna Rivers valleys. In fact, this hill station has over 30 scenic viewing points, some of which can be accessed by motorable roads, and others on foot. Dotting the landscape are numerous elegant mansions built during the days of the British. They stand as monuments of the Raj to this day. You can enjoy myriad activities here, such as boating, fishing, horse riding, and trekking. There’s also the adventure of playing golf on a gorgeous 9-hole course, built on the edge of a cliff!
