Munnar in Kerala is a hill station and former resort for the British Raj elite, surrounded by rolling hills dotted with tea gardens planted in the late 19th century. It is known for its lush green surroundings, lakes, reservoirs, forests, and tea estates. Nearby Eravikulam National Park is the natural habitat for the endangered mountain goat Nilgiri tahr, and boasts some picturesque walking trails – one can view the Lakkam Waterfalls, and 2,695 m-tall Anamudi Peak. The Tea Museum in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea houses curios, photographs and old machinery related to the tea-making industry. Mattupetty, situated at a height of 1700 m above sea level, is known for its dam and the beautiful lake, lush green tea plantations, rolling grasslands and Shola forests – it is also ideal for trekking and is home to a variety of birds.
