The Paro Valley has long been an important destination for traders and invaders alike. Located on Bhutan’s western side, Paro always had close ties with neighbouring Tibet. As Buddhism flourished in the region, its culture and ethos permeated the region. A great number of stupas dot the landscape and each one has a unique history, a unique story to offer. The little town of Paro is a huge tourist attraction. The market centre is lined with ornate old buildings and loaded with Tibetan arts and crafts – great souvenirs to pick up as keepsakes of a fabulous trip.
